French Onion Soup Recipe

French Onion Soup Recipe
Some health benefits for onions

Onion include substantial relief from number of diseases such as common cold, asthma, bacterial infections, respiratory problems, angina, and cough. Onions are also known to repel blood thirsty insects.




Ingredients 
1/4 cup butter
2 tablespoons olive oil
4 cups onions, sliced
2 beef broth cubes 

4 cups of water
1/2 cup red wine
1 teaspoon dried thyme
salt and pepper to taste
2 tbsp brown sugar
 croutons
sliced provolone cheese
grated  Swiss cheese, diced
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese



Melt butter with olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add onions and stir continually until translucent. Add beef cubes and water, wine and thyme. Simmer for 30 minutes. Add sugar and season with salt and pepper. 

pour soup mix into a bowl that would be ok to put into the oven and place a handful of croutons in each bowl of soup. Sprinkle parmesan and swiss cheese and layer 2 slices of provolone on top. Place bowls on cookie sheet and broil in the preheated oven until cheese bubbles and browns.
